Getting Out of My Comfort Zone...

This past Tuesday (12/28) I was "crowned" Colour Queen by the totally sweet and very talented Arielle over at ColourQ!  I can't tell you how thrilled I was to find that out!  I love ColourQ because Arielle has a fantastic eye for color, picks the most incredible color combos and this week is no exception.  When I first saw the inspiration picture and the colors my thought was "wow! cool colors!"  Then I thought:  "wow!  how will I combine those colors??"   Because while I think the colors are super cool, combining them was really outside my comfort zone.

I started out by first stamping my image (Hero Arts Bird Collage) in PTI's True Black on kraft cardstock.  I then set it aside for TWO DAYS and began looking through my stash for patterned paper that I could use for the card.  Imagine my surprise when I discovered that I had this really cool pack of designer papers from Stampin Up! called Day & Night!  To be honest, I don't even remember purchasing them, but obviously and thankfully I did!  After that, with a little help from the current Card Patterns sketch everything fell into place and I really like what resulted.    I'm also going to enter this card in the current City Crafters challenge to "stamp it out".

Thanks for taking a peek.... hope you take a step outside your comfort zone!

One Layer Wednesday...

A simple one layer card today for One Layer Wednesday.  I got some new Stampin Up! goodies that included some new ink (Rich Razzleberry) and a new stamp set called Style Beautiful.   The challenge this week as set by Jennifer is to make a card using one image and not more than two inks.  A sentiment is okay, as well.  For my inks I used the Rich Razzleberry & PTI's True Black.  The card is a 4 1/4" x 4 1/4" square.

It seems like ages since I last posted!  But with Christmas and all making cards just really wasn't on the agenda, ya know??  Well, now I'm trying to get back into the swing of things with a card for the current Flourishes challenge, FTCC98.  This week we have been challenged to use pearls.  I used the current SCS color combo of Old Olive, Night of Navy & Daffodil Delight for my card.  Stamps used are from Stampin Up!

A Simple Card....

Because... well I'm a simple cardmaker with a clean and simple style.   So today is another very simple card using the colors from the current ColourQ challenge.  I always like the color combos that Arielle comes up with, but lately haven't had the time to put anything together.   Today I had the time so I put together this simple card using the challenge colors.  I got out one of my favorite SU! sets from several years ago... Happy Harmony and inked it up.  The layout is one that I have used several times in the past because I really like the simple straight forward design.  In fact a card I made using this layout was so well liked on Splitcoaststampers that 39 people have put it into their favorites!   I find that kinda funny to be honest...  Anyway here is the card:

Thanks for taking a peek... hope you have a wonderful Christmas!

Heartfelt Wednesday

A short post with a card I made using Heartfelt Creations stamps.  I used stamps from the Daisy Patch Collection (Daisy Patch Bouquet & Daisy Patch Flowers), as well as the coordinating Daisy Patch dies.  I did all the coloring with Copic markers in an effort to better my skills with the markers.

Thanks for taking a peek... only a few more days til Christmas!  Are you ready??

Today Its A Green Butterfly!!!

Yep... another butterfly!  This time a card for the current JUGs challenge which is a very lovely color challenge:  white, green and blue.   And yep, I once again reached for the new Hero Arts Classic Fabric Design cling for my card.  I stamped the design in both light blue (Fresh Ink's Capri Blue) and green (SU! Pear Pizzaz) on white cardstock.  The green piece was diecut using the SU! butterfly die and some light blue pearls were added to the body.  A piece of darker green ruffle ribbon from Websters Pages was adhered to the blue stamped piece.  The sentiment, also from Hero Arts, was stamped using True Black ink and the butterfly adhered to the piece.  The entire piece was then adhered to the card front using foam dimensionals.  The layout is based on the current sketch from Clean & Simple.

Yellow Butterfly

The current Play Date Cafe challenge is black & white with a splash of yellow.  For my card I decided to use the new Hero Arts Classic Fabric Design background cling.  I inked up the image with PTI's True black and then laid the white cardstock piece on top and rubbed the back to pick up the color.  I adhered that piece to the Lemon Tart card base with foam dimensionals.  The butterfly was diecut using the Stampin Up! butterfly die and then placed in the SU! embossing folder Elegant Lines and run through the Cuttlebug.  I added a few black pearls to to the body.

Its Friday!!

And while I'm still battling this head cold, I'm glad its the weekend and the start of Christmas break for my kids...!  Yipeee!!

My little card today is for One Layer Wednesday (to be inspired by home decor) and Stampin' Sisters in Christ (to encourage or cheer up someone).  I have had this lamp stamp (say that three times fast!) from Hero Arts and had never inked it up.   So I got it out and used it for my card.  I stamped the image on PTI' Fine Linen (a new favorite neutral cs) with True Black ink.  I then stamped the lamp image on some Websters Pages Hollywood Vogue pp and trimmed out the shade and the lamp base and adhered them to the lamp.  The sentiment is from PTI's On My Couch.

Thanks for taking a peek... have a great weekend!

No Greater Love...

A card for the current Waltzingmouse sketch challenge and for the new ODBD Stamping in Time challenge.  I used the WMS set Holiday Labels No. 14 and the ODBD set Friendship.  Went with a very simple pink and black them.  I ink distressed the Labels 14 image with Spun Sugar distress ink after stamping the image using Memento Angel Pink.  The sentiment was stamped using Tuxedo Black

Heartfelt Thursday

Just switching things up a bit this week.  I usually post my Heartfelt Creations work on Wednesday, but this week has been a little hard for me.  I have a pretty bad cold and is really starting to wear me out.  I hope it goes away and soon!  It has sapped me clean of my creativity.  Thankfully I have a few HC projects waiting in the wings to share.  My picture of this card does not do it justice, it is just beautiful in real life.  I created the card using the following HC products:  HCPC 3315 Lily Petals; HCPC 3354 Classic Message; HCPC 3319 Simple Filler Stems; HCD 704 Perfect Petals dies & HCD 708 Fancy Window/Frame die.  I also used a Spellbinders plain oval die.

The card took me most of the day to make because I had to spend some time making the lilies, but when I was done I sure was pleased with what I created.   Three large petals were stamped on Stampin Up! Whisper White using Memento Angel Pink ink and then sponged with Rangers Spun Sugar distress ink.  They were rolled up to create the calla type lily and the end secured with strong adhesive (scor-tape). If you want to try making the lilies I would recommend that you use a relatively lightweight cardstock like Whisper White.  I tried making the lilies with PTI's Stampers Select White but found the cardstock was too thick to roll nicely.  The three lilies were then mounted on the oval that had been sponged with green ink.  The stems were stamped, trimmed out and arranged over the lilies.  Then everything was mounted on the card base.

Thanks for taking a peek...

More Glitter!

For the last two days I have been happily applying glitter to pretty much everything I have made and I have been having some fun doing it!  Today's card is for the final DeNami Design challenge for 2010:  use your punches.  Now I love my border punches, especially my Fiskars Upper Crust punch.  I remember the first time I saw it used was on Dawn McVey's blog over a year ago.   From that point the hunt was on to find one at my local Michaels and/or Joann.  Thankfully it didn't take me long to find one and I have been happily crafting with it ever since!  I paired it with two DeNami Design stamps that I purchased as a set back at the end of 2005.

I stamped the main holly image on white cardstock and then covered the piece with double-sided sticky tape that I got in sheet form.  I trimmed around the edges, pulled off the top sheet and poured on the glitter.   I punch a hole in one side and suspended the piece from the Upper Crust border piece at the top using white and green baker's twine.  The sentiment was stamped on white cardstock that had also been punched with the Upper Crust punch and adhered over the red piece.

Thanks for taking a peek..... now go glitter something up!

Playing with Glitter

I have a stinkin', rottin' cold and so what do I decide to do???  Play with GLITTER!  Though my head is fuzzy from this head cold, I remembered that I had some chipboard snowflakes knocking around somewhere and lots of beautiful Art Glitter that I hardly ever use.  The push over the edge put the two together was the current Sentimental Sundays challenge:  Let It Snow!   The current City Crafters challenge is Let it Snow, as well so I will be putting this card into their challenge, as well.

After digging around I found the snowflakes and got out the glitter.  I covered the snowflake with this lovely shade of glitter called "Wisteria" and matched it up with some lovely Websters Pages patterned paper (WonderFall/Hollywood Vogue combo pack).  The ribbon is PTI's Lavendar Moon.  The card layout is based on the current Clean & Simple layout.

ETA: Decided to drop this into the current Moxie Fab Glitter is Glam challenge.
Thanks for taking a peek...

Etsy Inspired Challenge

A card today for the current Etsy Inspired Challenge and since I made it a thank you card, I will be putting into the current Hero Arts challenge, as well.  The inspiration shop this week is Tzaddi Shop.  Lots of really cool jewelry designs.  I got my inspiration from this particular piece:

When I first saw it I was immediately reminded of the Hero Arts Fabulous Flourish stamp.  I didn't go with the reddish color of the inspiration piece, but with a burgundy color.  I stamped the flourish using SU! Bravo Burgundy and then added some Scattered Straw distress ink.   The distress ink caused some slight smearing of the burgundy ink which looks really cool IRL.   I added some gold color to the flourish using a Spica glitter pen, but you can't see it.   The thank you sentiment is from the Hero Arts set Thank You Flourishes.

Thanks for taking a peek... we have nothing but rain here in the NW, hope it is drier where you are!

Supplies:  Cardstock:  PTI True Black & Vintage Cream; SU! Bravo Burgundy; Ink:  SU! Bravo Burgundy; Ranger Scattered Straw Distress ink; PTI True Black; Stamps:  Hero Arts Fabulous Flourish; Thank You Flourishes; KaiserCraft pearls; Spica gold glitter pen

Winter White Wishes

A card today for several challenges.  I'm squeaking this one in for the current Waltzingmouse sketch challenge and for the Flourishes Winter White challenge.   I used the Flourishes set Wreaths of all Seasons and the WMS set Victorian Frippery.  I think I have done more embossing on this one little card then I have done in a long, long time.  I really like how it turned out though.  I'm putting this in the current Caardvarks challenge as well as the card is very monochromatic.

Thanks for taking a peek...

Perfect Poinsettia...

I have a thing for poinsettias.  I love them and used to purchase them at Christmas time, but gave up a few years ago because I cannot keep one alive to save my life.   So... I have taken to purchasing poinsettia stamps... much longer lasting!  My most recent purchases have been Penny Black's Christmas Star and the lovely poinsettia stamp I used on my card today from the ODBD set Blessed Christmas.  And to make it even better, Kelley the owner of ODBD came out this year with a die to match the image!!  I'm in poinsettia heaven!!!

I made the card for the current ODBD challenge which this week is a lovely sketch.  I stamped the poinsettia image on some yummy papers from the new Websters Pages Christmas Collection Combo Waiting for Santa/Sweet Season.  One image was diecut using the die and the other was trimmed out by hand.  Both were ink distressed with my new favorite distress ink:  Old Paper.  The trimmed out flower was popped up on top of the diecut image with foam dimensionals.  Additional Websters Pages paper were used for the background pieces.  The card base is PTI's Fine Linen.  The red cardstock is SU!'s Cherry Cobbler (I think!).  All the pieces were ink distressed with Old Paper, as well.  I love how the card turned out.

Thanks for taking a peek.... hope you are able to keep your poinsettias alive!!

Heartfelt Wednesday....

A short post containing a Heartfelt Creations dt project.  For this card I used the following sets:  HCPC 2293 Aztec Gold Sunflowers 2; HCPC 3308 Agape Love set & HCPC 3323 Large Elegant Word background stamp.  All these stamps can be found here.   I also used the Spellbinders Blossom 2 dies that coordinate with the Aztec Gold Sunflowers.

I got out my Copics (finally!!) and did some coloring.  I really like how it turned out.  I added some Spica gold pen to the center, but you can't really see it.  The circle sentiment was stamp and then die cuting using a Spellbinders circle die.  I diecut the yellow cardstock using the largest Blossom 2 die to use as a mat of sorts for the circle.  The flower was popped up in the center.  Tne card base was stamped with the Large Elegant Word background stamp.

Thanks for taking a peek...  please check out what the rest of the design team has done here.

merry & bright...

2nd post for the day!!  This time a card for the current JUGs challenge based on the lovely sketch provided by Alicia.  I bought a DCWV Christmas Combo mat stack yesterday and combined it with three different Hero Arts sets.  I love the mat stacks because the patterns are scaled smaller for cards and it is alot easier to use up a 4.5"x6.5" piece of paper than it is to use up a 12x12 sheet!!

One of my favorite Hero Arts set is A Kiss from the Sun.  I stamped the dress, pants and shirt on some of the red patterned paper, trimmed them out and then applied some Solar White Flower Soft to each.  The snowman was stamped on additional patterned paper and trimmed out, as well.  I wasn't sure I really liked the card when I was done, but the more I look at it the more I like it...

Thanks for taking a peek...

Supplies:  Cardstock:  PTI Fine Linen; Patterned Paper:  DCWV The Christmas Combo; Ink:  Memento Rich Cocoa & PTI True Black; Rhinestones:  KaiserCraft; Stamps:  Hero Arts:  A Kiss from the Sun; Joy to All & Let It Snow

Red & White Christmas

A quick post of a card I made for the current Play Date Cafe challenge to use red & white.  I used the Penny Black stamp "Starlit" for the card.  I stamped the image in VersaMark and then heat embossed with JudiKins Irridescent Sparkle ep.  It doesn't show up well in the photo, but looks really pretty in real life.  The cardstock is PTI's white shimmer.  The sentiment is from the Hero Arts set "Joy to All".

I'm also going to put this card into the current Stampin' Sisters in Christ challenge of white with a splash of red.  There is a bit more than a splash of red, but the card still works!
Thanks for taking a peek....

Back to The Beginning....

The One Layer Wednesday challenge that Susan set for us was to go back to what got us started stamping.  At first I was stumped, but only for about 30 seconds and then I remember exactly what got me hooked on stamping.  It was one simple little stamp from Impress Rubber Stamps.  I discovered the stamp while there during one of my very first visits.  My fellow papercrafter and super wonderful in real life friend, Cindy, had introduced me to Impress.  Prior to that I had just dabbled in stamping, picking up the odd stamp here or there.  But this one little stamp set me on the journey that I am now on.   And the great thing... Impress still carries that stamp.

In keeping with the simplicity of the stamp my card is super, super simple.  White cardstock (PTI, of course!), a simple embossed square (courtesy of a Spellbinders square die), crisp black ink (Close to My Heart) and a simple silver flower brad (Making Memories, sadly long since discontinued but I managed to hoard some.... imagine that hoarding papercrafting supplies!!).

The simple sentiment is from a {Stamps} of Life set banners4all.  The card is a 4" x 4" square.  Thanks for taking a peek... hope you take some time to think about "where it all began" for you.

Let It Snow....

not really!  We had snow last week right before Thanksgiving and while it was very pretty and all it really is a pain in the you know what!  We don't often get snow in the Puget Sound area (Seattle//Tacoma) and when we do...oh boy!  Lots O' Trouble!  So... I think I will leave my snowflakes on my cards...k?   Which brings me to my card.   Three different challenges wrapped into one card:  ColourQ, JUGs and ODBD.  I kinda sorta did the faux tile thing with the card.  I scored the cardstock using my Scor-Buddy (I love that little guy) and then stamped the piece with the snowflake background stamp.  Love how it turned out...

The various challenges are as follows:

ColourQ:  white; soft suede; tempting turquoise; wild wasabi & pacific point
                         JUGs:   3D holidy embellishment (snowflake)
ODBD:  snowflakes on your card (I used the ODBD Snowflake background stamp)

Thanks for taking a peek...

Heartfelt Wednesday

A short post with some Heartfelt Creations design team work.  Heartfelt Creations has quite a few stamp collections and one of my favorites is the Posy Patch collection.  Today my card uses a set from that collection called Posy Patch Clusters.  I stamped the large cluster image on cream cardstock with Ranger's Forest Moss distress ink and diecut the image using the 2nd larges Labels 10 die.  The card base was cut using the largest Labels ten die.

A companion set to the Posy Patch Clusters is the Posy Patch Flowers set which contains single flower images.  I stamped the corresponding flowers from that set on cream cardstock and colored them with Scattered Straw distress ink.  Then they were die cut using the corresponding Posy Patch dies.  Everything was layered on the main image and adhered to the card base.  The sentiment is from the newly released set Classic Message.

Thanks for taking a peek...  hope you have a wonderful Wednesday.

Supplies:  Cardstock:  Stampin Up! Choc. Chip & So Saffron; PTI Cream; Ink:  Ranger Forest Moss, Bundled Sage, Scattered Straw & Brushed Corduroy; Bling:  KaiserCraft; Dies:  Spellbinders Labels 10 dies; tags dies & Posy Patch dies
